Notes: This French MAS 1949-56 is in "surplus fair" condition, showing some imperfections, and is missing the gas block assembly and muzzle device (these parts can be sourced online). This rifle comes with 2 magazines. The MAS 49/56 was the final design iteration of the French-used Cold War era battle rifle. It started life as the M44 prior to the Nazi ocupation of France. After France was liberated, the rifle was redesigned in 1949 and again in 1956, thus, the 49/56. It is an excellent gas operated battle rifle using the very tame 7.5x55 French round. When these were brough into the United States as surplus, many of them were converted to .308, due to a more ready supply of ammo (such is the case with this one here). We have not test fired this firearm, but all fire functions are normal per a physical inspection.
